Infrastructure facilities of the department

Department has three functional class rooms each attached with white and glass boards . There are three LCD projectors which are regularly used in these classes . The department is wifi enabled . Students and teachers use internet facility . Department also has one large practical room with air conditioning system. Basic instrumental facilities with colorimeter , uv-spectrophotometer , electronic balance , centrifuge , refrigerator , deep fridge and incubator exist.

Teaching facility

Teachers teach using both traditional and modern means using personal laptops and LCD projectors . Learning tools are changing . So apart from the departmental seminar library, students are regularly given and encouraged to read pdf /ppts/ word files . Students being largely from Bengali medium background , are encouraged to improve their understanding and writing of English . This is required since most of the books on Zoology are in English . Finding it convenient, students tend to gather , what they perceive as knowledge, from the internet now a days. They are cautioned and given guidance on this as everything floating across the internet, is not knowledge. Since teaching is also associated with teacher and student relationship, students are encouraged to
come and remain attached to class room teaching more.

Assessment

Types of assessment , which may be a class test, viva during a class or just the questions , to be followed/applied, also depends on the type of student. Newly admitted students from Bengali medium find it difficult to grasp the subject. By the time they reach fourth semester, they are more mature and better learners. In CBCS , the internal component of the practicals were assessed on a continual basis. However, in the NEP, the internal component of the practical examination is held at the end of the semester .
